Location Information

Thesen Island is situated near Knysna, which in turns lies on the stretch of south-eastern coast of South Africa known as the Garden Route which extends from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to the Storms River in the Eastern Cape. It has the mildest climate in South Africa and the second mildest climate in the world, after Hawaii, according to the Guinness Book of Records.

The Route is sandwiched between the aforementioned mountains and the Indian Ocean. The Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma indigenous forests are a unique mixture of Cape Fynbos and Temperate Forest, offering hiking trails and eco-tourism activities.

The town of Knysna is certainly one of the Garden Route’s most popular spots. A precious unspoilt paradise, it is characterized by a vast lagoon entering the Indian Ocean between massive sandstone cliffs, 65 000 hectares of evergreen forest and unique Cape Fynbos.

The beautiful, natural Knysna scenery is complimented by friendly locals, always happy to hand out some expert advise, whether it’s directions or restaurant recommendations. The town offers superb shopping, restaurants and coffee shops, perfect for people watching.
